Covid-19: Community Response

24th March 2020

Dear All,

The last 10 days have seen rapid changes in advice and instruction from Government and Local Authorities, alongside an increasing number of local initiatives in response to Covid-19.

Firstly, we would like to acknowledge the actions of many residents who have already taken action, either by contacting their neighbours to offer assistance to those in self-isolation, or to get involved with groups co-ordinating support. Thank you for all your efforts.

Your Parish Council cannot provide advice on Covid-19 or updates on restrictions imposed by Government. In the first instance, changes are happening too fast for us to keep you informed. Please refer to the NHS website 111.NHS for advice. You should obtain other information from trusted websites such as BBC News - How Do I Stay Safe?.

You may have received a card from the group in Middleton that is co-ordinating volunteers to support those in self-isolation. We have offered to work with them to focus on support for Overthorpe residents. If you would prefer to register your willingness to help within Overthorpe, please get in touch on the number shown below. There are many practical ways you can help: e.g. you may be fortunate to have been allocated a delivery time by one of the supermarkets – if so, please contact your neighbours to find out if they are short of essentials.

If you are unable to go out, please ensure that your neighbours are aware of your circumstances, or get in touch with us by e-mail or on the phone number below so that we can let volunteers know who may need support. Support can be provided by volunteers only within the social distancing rules advised by Government.

Support & Advice

There are an increasing number of organisations offering support, including distribution of food parcels to the hardest hit. Unfortunately we are unable to determine which of these agencies is best suited to help you, or whether you are entitled to their support.

Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to offer more guidance and they can be contacted on 0300 330 9037 or found online at Citizens Advice Bureau.

Parish Notice Board

If you would like to place a suitable notice on the Parish notice board, e.g. offering help and support, please contact the Council at the address below.
